Update December 2023

The All-Volunteer Blessing Bike will officially be closing as of December 2023 – exactly 5 years from when we started.

We didn’t make this decision lightly.  We weighed it as carefully as we did when we started 5 years ago.

It is time that we focus on each other and our families.  Wade and I have lots of things planned as new grandparents.  Plus, our goal is to continue to enjoy every bit of living that we can while Wade is in remission from his multiple myeloma.  His health has been slowly declining and the bicycle builds have been getting harder. We know remission is only temporary and tomorrow is never guaranteed.

The last set of bikes we delivered last month was our last. We will not be sharing this news until next week but we feel like we owe it to you to give you advance notice before you see it on social media.

It is hard news to share but even good things can come to a great end.

I guess it is all in God’s hands what happens next.

I know this is not what you want to hear and I feel bad about it, and yes, sad too.

But we must admit, it has been one heck of a ride, all in honor of my mom Rosemary. What a feat for an all-volunteer garage nonprofit – 144 bikes in 23 states.

Together we did great things.

Thank you for being on this journey with us.

It has been one heck of a ride.

With love, gratitude, and many blessings.

ON A FINAL NOTE:  We are hopeful that another nonprofit will pick up where we left off. If you are interested in getting on a list we can pass on, send us an email with our name, location, and how a blessing bike would impact you and your family.

History of the Blessing BIke:

At age 92, Rosemary Sorce inspired her family to want to make her final season on earth a little more meaningful and enjoyable. Although front-passenger bikes existed, the cost was a barrier for any middle-class family. In August 2018, Wade and Jill Houser together found a solution: a cargo-style bicycle retrofitted to carry Rosemary.

After a few years of design, research, and support from friends — we’ve created the Blessing Bike 2.0 — It features six gears, disc brakes, a parking brake, step through for the person peddling, and a kickstand to help with stability when stepping onto the bike! All for the same price.
