In the last 20 years we have lived in Boise, we have had nests of squirrels, robins, sparrows and ducks all in our yard.
Today, I noticed something different. A dove had nested between the downspout and the outside wall of our home – just a few feet from Rosemary’s bedroom window. As I approached the dove, she held her ground and watched me. We locked eyes for a mere moment and somehow, I felt connected to her. She seemed at peace in the moment protecting her unborn.
As my glance went from the nest to my mother bedroom window, I felt a rush of emotion and tears formed. A dove is a symbol of care, devotion, purity, peace, holiness, hope and sacrifice. I felt like it was a reminder to just stop, let go, and be content with EACH moment.
Soon enough, the time will come when the dove needs to fly. When that happens, she will just open her wings and soar with a promise of new life.
Thank you, God, for the reminder.
